Lumio Appoints Greg Butterfield as CEO

Article by Emily Fonnesbeck, Silicon Slopes Newsroom

When you move into a new home, it's usually a simple process to change the utilities into your name. You call the local power company, give them a name and proof of residence, and accept the ensuing charges. It's not like you have a choice, right? Hopefully, you're soon to be wrong.

What if you don't have to accept the monopoly that power companies thrive on? In normal circumstances, you can't negotiate rates, shop around, or dictate what happens with your power bill, but solar is hoping to put those days behind us. Lumio, a solar startup launched in late 2020 who, in less than a year, has risen to massive success.

At the helm of Lumio is newly appointed CEO Greg Butterfield, who has played major roles in companies like Novell, Word Perfect, Vivint Solar, Workfront, and Domo. Having been part of over 30 successful companies, including 12 of those at over $1 Billion valuation, Greg is a powerhouse of knowledge, ready to take the industry to unicorn levels.

"If you look at what has happened with power, fifty years ago we had a coal burning power plant, but today we still have coal burning power plants even though 35% of all the pollution in the air- and we deal with the inversion in Utah- is caused by coal burning power plants," says Greg. "We're committed to decentralizing power and giving people a more personal solution to help them create, store, and manage their electricity."

The use of solar energy has seen a sharp uptick in the last decade, and with over 170 billion square feet of home rooftops in the U.S., there's a literally a lot more room for improvement. Installation of solar panels on new construction can be built into the mortgage so homeowners barely even notice a difference- especially compared to the rising cost of traditional electricity.

Lumio is looking, perhaps more than achieving success, to help people take charge of the way they manage electricity. To make an impact in their local, national, and global communities. With an impressive executive team, Lumio has chosen Utah as their global headquarters to not only help people get solar, but to bring 250,000+ jobs to the company across the nation.

Lumio isn't just selling solar panels- they're turning solar into something that is user friendly, affordable, and technologically advanced. Smart software coupled with intelligent energy creation and management is what sets them apart, plus the drive to make a difference in the world at large.

With extreme weather conditions and significant changes in the earth's climate, it's obvious that things need to change. "It's not just about making money, it's about making a difference," says Greg. "We're really excited to do this."
